Underground plumbing is one of those things that nobody thinks about until something goes wrong. Once the concrete gets poured, whatever is buried beneath it stays buried. If the grade is off, if the pipe runs aren't right, or if the bedding wasn't done properly - you're looking at a jackhammer job down the road. That's exactly why we treat this stage like it matters, because it does.
Here's what we were working with on this garage build. Fresh framing, open ground, and a clean shot to get every drain line and stub-out positioned correctly before anything gets locked in. We laid out the runs carefully, making sure each line had the right slope to drain consistently for the long haul. No guessing, no shortcuts.
The pea gravel bed is a big part of getting this right. It locks the pipes into grade and keeps them stable when the concrete is poured on top. Without proper bedding, pipes can shift during the pour and throw off your drainage entirely. It's a simple step that a lot of people skip - and one we never do.
This kind of work happens all across the Salt Lake City area as new builds and garage additions continue to go up. Whether it's a standalone garage, a shop, or an ADU, the underground rough-in is the foundation of a plumbing system that actually works. We take that seriously on every single job we step onto.
Getting it right at this stage saves time, money, and a whole lot of headaches for everyone involved - the homeowner, the GC, and the concrete crew. Solid prep is just how we work.
